Oyster Care and Wightman & Parrish: Trailblazers in sustainability working together to deliver excellent care
About Oyster Care
Oyster Care Homes represents a new generation of care providers, where sustainability isn't just an afterthought, it's intrinsic to everything they do.
Led by CEO Tim Buckley – who has an extensive career history in the care sector as well as a passion for aquatics and the ocean – Oyster Care was founded with an ambitious vision: to establish a care home group in which environmental responsibility drives every decision and the care delivered is world-class.
Each Oyster Care facility is built by developer LNT Care Developments, who specialise in precision-built, carbon-free care homes. The first Oyster Care home opened in April 2024 and by the following month, three homes were fully operational. As of June 2025, eight homes are now serving residents across the South of England from Kent to Somerset, and the group will soon expand into Cornwall. With five more homes planned for this year and thirteen additional facilities scheduled for 2026-2027, Oyster Care is rapidly increasing its footprint.
But it's not just about growth – it's about doing things differently. Every element of Oyster Care Homes, from concept to creation to setup, has sustainability at its core. Each home features ground source heating, solar panels with sufficient battery storage to last two days if needed, plans for rainwater harvesting, and gardens where cuttings are recycled and food waste is composted. This comprehensive approach sets Oyster Care apart as a provider of exceptional care services at an all-inclusive price, with resident well-being and quality of life at the heart of their mission.

The challenge
As part of their commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices, Oyster Care needed to find suppliers who shared their values. When planning the launch of their first home, they sought proposals from qualified and experienced partners who could deliver high-quality services and products while aligning with strict Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria.
Wightman & Parrish’s response to Oyster Care’s request for proposal (RFP) demonstrated their understanding of Oyster Care’s requirements to be as follows:
- To provide the best market prices for required items or equivalents
- To provide recommendations and pricing for alternative products that are better aligned to Oyster Care’s ESG criteria
- To demonstrate that they could deliver a high quality of service while meeting the relevant ESG criteria and supporting Oyster Care during its ambitious growth plans
- To demonstrate W&P’s own ESG commitments, specifically outlining their sustainable sourcing practices and community engagement projects
- To demonstrate that they could support the launch of new homes, training and ongoing account management to support the growth of Oyster Care

The solution: A partnership built on shared values
The partnership encompasses a comprehensive range of products and services. Wightman & Parrish supplies detergents and cleaning products alongside consumables like paper towels and wipes. They also support the fit-out of each new home, providing essential equipment to ensure every facility is ready to deliver exceptional care from day one.
Central to the solution are a selection of core cleaning products deployed throughout all homes: Oxivir Excel, Good Sense Breakdown (an enzymatic cleaner), and the SURE plant-based range (which covers cleaners, disinfectants, and kitchen hygiene solutions).
For laundry operations, eco-friendly options include Diversey Horizon Light, Bright, and Comfort Blue Skies conditioner – which have all been developed to work effectively at lower temperatures, maximising the use of each home's solar energy while keeping operational costs low.
When there are changes in products or disruption to availability, Wightman & Parrish advises on alternatives – and if new formulations that are more effective or better for the environment reach the market, they will recommend them to Oyster Care and provide the necessary training and safety data sheets.
This approach aligns perfectly with Oyster Care's commitment to environmental responsibility while ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene essential in care settings.
Beyond product supply, Wightman & Parrish have access to Oyster Care’s online ordering platform, and can therefore help track spending, support any budget constraints and conduct analysis to advise on cost savings and efficiency. What’s more, W&P provide ongoing support for commissioning new homes and delivers comprehensive training for care teams. This ensures that as Oyster Care grows, every new facility benefits from the same high standards and environmental commitment.
