Ashdown Forest Conservation Day

31 October 2023 Wightman & Parrish

Join us on a fantastic conservation adventure at Ashdown Forest!

Our team, including Lisa Bromley, Chloe Crozier, Stuart Durand, Paul Ruben, Perry Hodgkinson, Danny Pearce, and Anna Kelly, recently volunteered with the forest conservators. We teamed up with Forest Ranger Mike Payne and his trusty dog 'Woody' to tackle the issue of overgrown Scots Pine trees that were inhibiting the growth of other plants in the forest.

No chainsaws are involved here! We relied on pure manpower to cut down and transport a whopping 2-3 tonnes of trees. Perry even wielded an impressive knife, as you can see in the image below. But don't worry, we had plenty of help and teamwork made the job a lot easier.

While Stuart took on a one-man mission and hacked down about half a tonne of trees on his own (talk about competitive spirit!), Chloe and Anna focused on moving the branches and lighter trees to clear the pathways. Meanwhile, Paul, Danny, Perry, and Lisa embraced their inner lumberjacks, sawing down any tree they could find. They even discovered that working together to push the tree while sawing made the process much smoother.

It was an incredible day of accomplishment and camaraderie. Just look at the before and after picture below to see how much the team achieved in just one day! We're already looking forward to our next conservation adventure because it's not only rewarding, but it's also a whole lot of fun!
